Shah Rukh Khan called Jatin Pandit to praise DDLJ song ‘Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main’: ‘Kya gaana banaya hai, mazaa aagaya’

On the 30th anniversary of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, composer Jatin Pandit revisited the making of its memorable soundtrack.

Renowned duo Jatin-Lalit composed the music of Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Now, as the film marks 30 years since its release, Jatin Pandit looked back on creating some of its iconic tracks, including “Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main,” “Ghar Aaja Pardesi,” and “Mere Khwaabon Mein”. In a video on his YouTube channel, the composer reminisced about how Yash Chopra’s wife, Pamela Chopra, lent her voice to one of the songs. He also shared how Shah Rukh Khan personally called him to praise a track.

In the clip, Jatin revealed that the song “Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main” was made after a lot of challenges with its tune. But after it was recorded, Pamela was extremely happy and so was SRK. “When ‘Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main’ was recorded, Pam ji became so happy in the monitor room. It was several times better than what she was thinking,” he said.

The composer added, “As soon as the recorded sample was sent to Shah Rukh Khan, he immediately called me and said, ‘Kya gaana banaaya hai, mazaa aagaya.’ And if you watch it, you can see how amazingly Shah Rukh and Kajol carried the song.”

Jatin Pandit also praised Pamela Chopra for singing the popular track “Ghar Aaja Pardesi Tera Des Bulaaye”. “It was such a beautiful situation. No matter wherever anyone lives, nothing is better than our own country. This song is on the same topic. The best part about this song is that Pamela Chopra sang this song,” he shared.

“After that, such a conjunction never happened that she would sing. She sang it so beautifully, there wasn’t even a single take in which she made a mistake. She memorised it so well and was singing it lovingly. She was a good lady. Yash ji was the same, and Aditya Chopra sahab is also like that,” the music composer concluded.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge also starred Kajol, Farida Jalal, Amrish Puri, Parmeet Sethi, Anupam Kher, and Mandira Bedi. The film completed the milestone of 30 years on October 20.
