While the Padma Bhushan awardee Dharmendra would have received a funeral with full state honours, the Deol family gave a private farewell to their beloved patriarch.

Actor Dharmendra passed away in Mumbai on Monday morning at the age of 89, a few days before his 90th birthday.
Dharmendra was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital in October after experiencing breathlessness. He remained under medical care for several weeks before being discharged on November 12 to continue his treatment at home. The actor breathed his last on November 24 at his residence.

Dharmendra's cremation
The Deol family chose to keep the last rites of Dharmendra quiet and private. While the Padma Bhushan awardee, with almost six decades of cinema behind him, would have received a funeral with full state honours, the Deol family gave a private farewell to their beloved patriarch.
Dharmendra's funeral took place at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai. As crowds increased and sobbing fans were seen outside the gates, police were forced to shut the gates.

No statement from the family
The Deol family has not released any statement to the media through social media or their representatives. Sources suggest that the grief-stricken family wants to keep this extremely private.

Top actors at the funeral
Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and wife Gauri, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh and wife Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Dutt, Shabana Azmi, Saira Banu and Anil Sharma were among the celebrities who attended the funeral of Dharmendra. Kajol, Shilpa Shetty, Zanjay Khan, Farhan Akhtar, among others, were seen arriving at the Deol residence to offer condolences.

Dharmendra was in and out of the hospital
Dharmendra was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital in October after reportedly complaining of breathlessness. He underwent treatment there and was discharged in November. The Deol family had dismissed reports that he was on the ventilator and false reports of his death at the time. Both Hema Malini and Esha Deol had taken to social media at the time, urging everyone to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from spreading false news. Following this, the family decided to continue his treatment at home.

India pays tribute to Dharmendra
PM Modi called Dharmendra's death "the end of an era." He wrote on X, "The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti."
President of India, Droupadi Murmu also posted condolences on X, "The demise of veteran actor and former Member of Parliament Shri Dharmendra Ji is a great loss to Indian cinema. One of the most popular actors, he delivered numerous memorable performances during his decades-long illustrious career. As a towering figure of Indian cinema, he leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire young generations of artists. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers."
Akshay Kumar shared via X, "Growing up, Dharmendra ji was the hero every boy wanted to be…our industry’s original He-Man.Thank you for inspiring generations. You’ll live on through your films and the love you spread. Om Shanti 🙏."
