It was a given that Salman Khan was coming with his Eidi this year with AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar. However, as a gift a couple of weeks earlier, on the occasion of Holi, the makers of Sikandar released the ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ track from the film. The song, which celebrated the festival of colours, was composed by Pritam, and singing credits were given to Shaan and Dev Negi. Talking on Vickey Lalwani’s channel, Shaan shared that he actually sang the full song, but had to share credits with Dev Negi after the final mix.
“There are two voices in the song, and one hero on the screen. But I think at the end of the day, it is the call of the production house, and I think Sajid (Nadiadwala) bhai wanted to do something different with the number,” said Shaan, who said that he was approached by composer Pritam to sing this energetic number, and they also recorded a few variations of the song in his voice.
“Due to certain reshuffling in the last minute, I think they decided to go with two voices. In fact, Dev Negi had sung the shoot mix,” said Shaan, who revealed how many a time people get used to this mix because of sheer familiarity and comfort. “See, when you are listening to a song in a certain voice and in a certain production quality, and you are listening to it for a long time during shooting, etc… your mind is tuned to it. And just before the release, when you get someone else to sing the final version, and you hear it with a new voice and new beats, you believe the previous version worked for you,” reasoned out Shaan, who believes that this confusion often leads to a sense of discord between the composer and the production house. “This isn’t the first time.”
However, Shaan pointed out that Pritam’s team reached out to him to get the go-ahead before the final mix. “They were sweet enough to ask me if I was okay with it, and I said it was their call. See, it is not personal. Probably, they wanted to experiment, or give the song a new tone. It is their money, their movie, and they have a lot more at stake,” said Shaan, adding that he would have indeed liked for Bam Bam Bhole to be a solo song. “Even now, I still have the credit. I love the song, and I will sing it in my shows. I am happy, but yeah, I’d have been thrilled if it was a solo song. But for that matter, even Dev would have been happy if it was his solo. Anyway, if we have to share credits, and if it was for a Salman Khan song, then we are both happy.”
Shaan also clarified that he doesn’t think Salman had a say in this, and they both go back a long way. “But I have never called him up to pull any strings,” said Shaan.
Sikandar, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Kishore, and Kajal Aggarwal, is set to hit the screens on March 30. Apart from Sikandar, Salman was speculated to be part of Atlee’s next, but there are reports that the project will not take off anytime soon.
