The Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira, which is the Hindi remake of Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, has been having a tough time at the box office. Sarfira made Rs 2.5 crore on its first day in theatres, and on the sixth day, the film could only bring in Rs 2 crore, taking its nett domestic total to Rs 17.4 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

Sarfira’s collections are shockingly low for a film that is led by one of the biggest star of the Hindi film industry. Akshay has not had a solo hit since 2021’s Sooryavanshi. All his films since then, including Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Selfiee, Mission Raniganj, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. failed miserably at the box office. OMG 2, which was led by Pankaj Tripathi but starred Akshay in an extended cameo, was a box office success.

Sarfira has now crossed the lifetime collection of another Akshay Kumar flop, Selfiee, which made Rs 16.85 crore during its lifetime run in the theatres. Akshay hasn’t had a string of flops in many years. In fact, the actor had an uncommonly strong run at the box office at one point. Just before the pandemic, his 2019 film Good Newwz collected Rs 17.56 crore on its opening day itself. The film eventually went on to make Rs 205.14 crore at the box office.

Since Akshay works on multiple films at the same time, and is known for winding up his films quickly, his commitment to his films has been questioned in the recent past. When asked about the same, the actor told Galatta Plus, “A lot of people have problems as to why am I doing 4 films a year. I don’t understand this. For the first time in my life, I have heard somebody saying why are you working so much. Have you ever heard a question why do you work? I do 4 films a year and people have a problem with that.”

Akshay insisted that he gives as many days as required when working on film and shared that he gave 80 days to Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and then asked rhetorically, “Kya ukhaad liya (What difference did it make)?” The film bombed at the box office.
