Sandeep Reddy Vanga says people didn’t like Animal’s end because of ‘personal agenda’: ‘Do you want me to kill the hero?’

Sandeep Reddy Vanga argued that a section of the audience didn't like the climax of his films, Kabir Singh and Animal because of their "personal agenda."

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently reacted to the criticism of the climax of his films, Kabir Singh and Animal. While Kabir Singh, a remake of Vanga’s Arjun Reddy, was led by Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, Animal, which recently ruled the box office, was headlined by Ranbir Kapoor. Vanga reasoned that a section of the audience didn’t like the climax of his films because of their “personal agenda.”

He explained to Dainik Bhaskar that people would have been happy had Kabir Singh, played by Shahid, would have acknowledged his problematic behaviour towards Preeti (Kiara) in the movie and would have ended up alone. Similarly, they wanted Animal’s Ranvijay (Ranbir) to suffer at the end.

Vanga said, “People are accustomed to a hero giving a lecture in the climax. He should accept on the screen that what he did was wrong, that is when people get satisfied. They wanted Kabir to accept that he was wrong and that he should not have gotten Preeti. In Animal too, there were so many consequences, the father is going to die, his wife will be leaving him, his health is gone for a toss. Aur kya chahiye, maar dun hero ko climax mein? (What else do you want? Do you want me to kill the hero in the climax?)”

The filmmaker argued that people don’t like a film if they don’t get the ‘desired’ climax. He added, “It’s a problem when people don’t get the desired climax. When personal agenda comes in between watching a film, then Avatar will be boring, Animal kya hai?

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal received a polarised reaction from the audience, even after it streamed on Netflix. People raised questions on its portrayal of misogyny and violence. The film, also starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, managed to do a business of over Rs 900 crore.
