YouTuber and comedian Samay Raina, along with his hit show India’s Got Latent, came under scrutiny after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment on the show that went viral. Since then, multiple FIRs have been registered against both Samay and Ranveer, leading to Samay removing all episodes of India’s Got Latent. While the comedian has remained silent on the controversy, an old video of him explaining his stance on comedy and the lack of deeper meaning behind his jokes has now gone viral.

In the resurfaced clip from his Ahmedabad show in 2024, Samay is seen performing at a live show, where he asks his audience to put down their phones and listen to him as he speaks from the heart. He says, “Phone hata do just want to talk dil se (from heart). Before I leave…jo bhi ek ghanta maine baatein kari, mein aisa aadmi nahi hu (Whatever spoke for the last one hour, I am not this kind of person).”

Someone in the audience shouted, “Cover-up, cover-up.” Responding to him, Samay said, “It’s not a coverup, I am trying to tell you something. I could have left and been like….” He then gestures, indicating that he could have simply ended his set after cracking jokes.

He continues, “But I would like to break the facade for you…we all write joke to make you laugh par inn sabka koe matlab nahi hai (These jokes have no meaning). This is a game and these are cheat codes.” Referring to an earlier joke in his set, he said, “Nana zinda hai mera (My grandfather is alive). We write s***, we know it works for you, you have a good time, we make money. Fun.”

Raina is currently touring Canada and the United States with his stand-up show Samay Raina Unfiltered. He recently performed at the Myer Horowitz Theater in Edmonton, Canada. The comedian was issued a summons by cyber police. The cyber police also denied him permission to record his statement via videoconferencing.

After removing all episodes of India’s Got Latent, Samay had shared a note on Instagram that read, “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
