Saira Banu says Yash Johar turned Santa Claus and brought ‘tablets and oils’ for Dilip Kumar from America: ‘He was one in a million friend’
On the anniversary of the film Duniya, veteran Bollywood actor Saira Banu remembered Dilip Kumar and Yash Johar.

Veteran actor Saira Banu on Monday fondly remembered the Dilip Kumar starrer Duniya and the beautiful memories associated with that movie. She had a special appearance in the film, and this came after she had taken a break from acting to prioritise her life at home with her late husband, Dilip Kumar. Saira, who recently made her Instagram debut, opened up about Duniya and its producer Yash Johar. The veteran actor heaped praise on Yash, calling him an “irreplaceable loving friend to Sahib (Dilip Kumar)”.
Sharing unseen pictures from the sets and Dilip, Saira said that Yash was a celebrated producer of the film industry and irreplaceable loving friend to Sahib and their entire family. She wrote, “I can never forget his largesse of heart when he went out of his way to help each and every one of his friends when they were in a quandary especially with health problems.”
Saira mentioned that her mother, Naseem Banu, had asthma, and the medicines she needed had to be brought from either London or America since they weren’t available in India back then. The actor recalled, “He (Yash Johar) would be ‘Santa Claus’ just coming into our home and bringing in the desired medicines with a snap of a finger it would seem! Similarly some oils and tablets were desired for Sahib and the same surprise would be repeated for the requirement.”

The veteran actor also remembered an incident during a trip to America when Yash Johar was carrying a blood sample for a well-known friend. The test couldn’t be done in Bombay, so they had to take it abroad. She said, “He was one in a million friend, compassionate and an extraordinarily caring human being.”
She concluded, “One sunny morning when I was sharing my cup of tea with Sahib he smiled at me and said “Saira I know that you have stopped working so that we share this precious time to lull over happily together over a cup of tea. Then he proceeded to give me the surprise of surprises, he said that he would like me to do a ‘Special Appearance’ which depicted his wife in the film, Yash Johar’s ‘DUNIYA’ for which he was shooting.”
