Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani box office collection Day 2: Alia Bhatt-Ranveer Singh film witnesses 45 percent growth, earns more than Rs 27 crore
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani box office collection Day 2: Karan Johar's family drama gets a thumbs up from the audience as it sees a 45 percent growth and earns Rs 16 crore on Saturday.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani released on July 28. Majorly good reviews and positive word of mouth have helped Karan Johar’s film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani to grow at the box office. After opening with Rs 11.1 crore, the film saw almost 45 per cent growth on Saturday as it minted Rs 16.05 crore, as reported by trade analyst Taran Adarsh. This brings the two-day collection of the film to Rs 27.15 crore.
Adarsh shared a detailed report about the film’s growth and performance. He wrote, “#RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani witnesses a super 44.59% growth on Day 2… Major centres [#Mumbai, #Delhi, #NCR, #Bengaluru, #Pune, #Hyderabad] continue to dominate 🔥🔥🔥, while Tier 2 centres also witness substantial growth… Fri 11.10 cr, Sat 16.05 cr. Total: ₹ 27.15 cr. #India biz. Looking at the excellent trends on Day 2, #RRKPK is targeting ₹ 46 cr+ total [Nett BOC] in its *opening weekend*… Post pandemic, there were several instances of muted or nil growth over the weekend, since the reports were negative… In this case, the growth on Day 2 and the advance bookings for Day 3 [at major centres] sends a clear message: #RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani has found acceptance.”
“Tier 2 centres have witnessed strong trends on Day 2, but there’s scope to score big numbers on Day 3… If Tier 3 centres also join the party on Day 3, #RRKPK should be closing its opening weekend on a superb note,” he added.
The Alia Bhatt-Ranveer Singh film saw a 33.68 percent occupancy in the Hindi market. While Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has no competition in Bollywood, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer continues to pull audiences. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is seemingly out of the race. Pawan Kalyan’s Bro was also released this Friday and is getting a good response from the moviegoers, but it will not affect RRKPK’s business as much in the north belt.
As far as the opening day collection of 2023’s Hindi films is concerned, the KJo film is the fifth-highest opener of the year. The top four spots are occupied by Pathaan (Rs 57 crore), Adipurush (Rs 36 crore), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Rs 15.81 crore) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore), as per Bollywood Hungama. However, the film is expected to grow further on Sunday.
In her review for the Indian Express, Shubhra Gupta wrote that the film ‘has no place for nuance, or subtlety; it’s the kind of film where every note is hammered in’.
“Karan Johar has always worked with the adage that describes a typical Bollywood potboiler– ‘iss film mein emotion hai, colour hai, aur bahut saara loud background music hai’– but in his better outings, he has managed to fuse those elements in his own individual stamp– an unapologetic cheesy aesthetic which goes hand-in-hand with moments of real heart, designed to make us melt. But in Rocky and Rani, that Johar is seen too rarely. You want big sets? Here, take ginormous. You want shine? Naach-gaana? Pretty funerals? Overdressed mansions? It’s all there. And you want originality? That’s asking for too much,” read a part of the review.
Apart from Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, the film stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Aamir Bashir, Tota Roy Choudhury, Churni Ganguly, Kshitee Jog and Anjali Anand in pivotal roles.
