Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani box office collection Day 5: Karan Johar’s film shows no signs of slowing down; earns Rs 60 cr

He wrote on Twitter, ” #RRKPK a solid chance to accumulate a healthy total… Eyes ₹ 70 cr+ in Week 1, should comfortably cross ₹ 100 cr before Week 2 concludes.”

Karan’s last feature film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, had a better first week run at the box office than Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. It had earned Rs 13.3 crore on its first Tuesday. But Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was a Diwali release.

Written by Ishita Moitra, Sumit Roy and Shashank Khaitan, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is the story of a young couple, Rocky and Rani, who live with each other’s families to see if they are compatible with them or not. Jaya Bachchan plays the matriarch of Rocky’s family in the film, and Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi play long-lost lovers.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Karan revealed that the first cut of the film was over three hours long. But he was ‘ruthless’ in his editing process. Reacting to complaints about the second half being too preachy, he said, “The edit was challenging. Nitin Baid is a genius editor. It was very difficult, we tried very hard. But there were 10 principal characters, and each needed closure. That’s what I wanted for them. It was very difficult to pack in the elements of humour and say what you need to. I did realise that we were struggling to get the edit to be what it was. Sometimes, you need to keep some of that wobbliness or ‘bloatedness’, because if you (remove one thing, it impacts the payoff later). Everything had a payoff. It was very difficult for me to take anything out…”
