Director Ram Gopal Varma’s adulation for late actor Sridevi is well-documented. In fact, over the years, the filmmaker has constantly been ruffling feathers whenever he talks about Sridevi because of his no-holds barred display of affection and admiration for one of the most prolific pan-Indian actors. Nevertheless, in a recent interview on his channel, RGV spoke about Sridevi, and shared his opinion on her daughter and actor Janhvi Kapoor. “I don’t see Sridevi in Janhvi yet,” said Ram Gopal Varma without batting an eyelid.
In fact, Janhvi’s Devara co-star Jr NTR openly said that there was a frame during the photoshoot for the film where they thought she was a spitting image of her legendary mother. However, RGV dismissed any such comparisons and even attributed this belief to the fact that there is a Sridevi hangover. He also said that the adulation for Sridevi, who has worked in his Kshana Kshanam and Govindha Govindha, grew over the years because of her performance and talent. “Be it Padaharella Vayasu or Vasanta Kokila, she delivered a range of performances. In fact, seeing her perform, I forgot that I was a filmmaker, and started seeing her as an audience. That is the range,” pointed out Ram Gopal Varma.
When asked about a potential collaboration with Janhvi Kapoor, Ram Gopal Varma didn’t hold back at all, and said, “I liked the mother right, not the daughter…” Underlining that it was a statement made off the cuff, and not with malicious intent, RGV added, “Honestly throughout my career, there have been a lot of actors and big stars with whom I haven’t developed a connection. So yeah, I have no intention of doing a film with Janhvi.”
On the work front, Ram Gopal Varma is set to make a comeback with a film, featuring his Satya star Manoj Bajpayee. On the other hand, Jahnvi Kapoor, who was recently seen in Devara, has Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari and Param Sundari in the pipeline.
