Rajkummar Rao, who will next be seen in Srikanth, recently opened up about his journey in the movies and said that he was replaced from a few films in his initial days because ‘big actors’ wanted to play that role. Rajkummar said that this experience really shocked him and he was quite taken aback after he learnt that this happens far too often in the Hindi film industry.
He shared with India Today, “Initially I was replaced from a couple of films, because some other big actors wanted to do it. I was like, ‘Wow, this also happens here.'” Rajkummar also shared that apart from being replaced, he did face a certain kind of prejudice from industry members because they did not see him as a lead hero. The actor said that this was because he came from a small town. Rao grew up in Gurgaon and then studied at Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
“Apart from being replaced, a lot of people would often see me in a certain way. Because I came from a small town, they looked at me in a certain way. They would even question how I could be a lead actor in a film,” he shared. In the same breath, Rajkummar recalled his earlier days that while there were people who were not willing to give him a chance, there were other who showed immense faith in him. “But there were also people who would say, ‘Oh you come from a small town, you are an outsider, but we will make you a lead actor,'” he said.

Rajkummar Rao was first noticed after he appeared in Dibakar Banerjee’s 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha. With films like Hansal Mehta’s Shahid, Rajkummar established himself as a promising actor and he also won a National Award for the same.
The actor’s next film Srikanth has him playing the role of real-life visually impaired entrepreneur Srikanth Bolla, who overcame the challenges that society threw at him and became a success story.
