Rajkumar Santoshi says he taught Aamir Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor how to emote: ‘Had to mould them’
Rajkumar Santoshi, in a new interview, said established actors like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor also 'behaved' like a newcomer on his film's set.

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi gave Hindi cinema some of its biggest hits in films like Ghayal, Andaz Apna Apna, Damini and The Legend of Bhagat Singh among others. He also gave actors Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna their big break in the 1995 film Barsaat. However, established actors like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor also ‘behaved’ like a newcomer on a Rajkumar Santoshi film set.
During a new interview for the promotion of his upcoming film Bad Boy, Santoshi shared how he had to teach seasoned actors like Salman Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Aamir Khan, and others how to emote as they were too ‘enthusiastic’ on his film set. However, the filmmaker believes this was all an outcome of the success of his 1990 film Ghayal, starring Sunny Deol in the lead role.
He told Bollywood Hungama, “Thanks to the super-success of Ghayal (1990), even established actors behaved like newcomers on my sets, be it Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan or Salman Khan. They were all enthusiastic on my sets. I had to mould them and teach them as well about how to emote and perform.”
Santoshi worked with Salman and Aamir on Andaz Apna Apna. Anil Kapoor starred in Pukar which was written and directed by Santoshi. Rishi Kapoor played a pivotal role in Damini.
Santoshi also mentioned that he didn’t cast Namashi Chakraborty in Bad Boy because he was Mithun Chakraborty’s son but because he liked his performance during the auditions. He said, “Sajid (Qureshi) bhai told me that Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi is very interested to work. I made it clear, ‘I’ll audition him and if required, I’ll even shoot a scene with him. If he’s right, we’ll consider him’.”
Bad Boy will hit the theaters on April 28. It features Mithun Chakraborty in a cameo appearance.
