Rajkumar Hirani says he is ‘seriously thinking’ about Munna Bhai 3 with Sanjay Dutt: ‘I have five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai’
Rajkumar Hirani spoke about making a third film in the Munna Bhai franchise and said that Sanjay Dutt is looking forward to returning to the character.

Rajkumar Hirani, who is one of the most popular and most successful film directors of the Hindi film industry, was present at the unveiling of SCREEN in Mumbai on Friday. At the event, Hirani discussed his first hit, Munna Bhai MBBS and hinted that he might soon be making a third film in the franchise.
Addressing the audience at the event, the filmmaker said he has not just one or two, but five scripts in the works. “I have five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai. I spent six months on a script, reach the interval, and it just wouldn’t go beyond that. There is a Munna Bhai LLB, Munna Bhai Chal Base, Munna Bhai Chale Amreeka, and more,” said the Dunki filmmaker, who spoke about the biggest challenge of writing a Munna Bhai film. “The most important factor is that the next instalment has to get better than the previous films. But now, I have a unique idea. Of course, over the course of 100 years of cinema, everything has been said. But yeah, I am working on that idea.”
Hirani seamlessly left the audience in splits when he spoke about the biggest fear propelling him to make the third Munna Bhai film. “I think Sanju might just come home and threaten me to get done with the next. He really wants to do another Munna Bhai film.” Later, he also said that he is “seriously” thinking about making the next Munna Bhai film.

Hirani is known for making films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju and Dunki. Hirani is one of the few filmmakers who has never had a flop at the box office. His last film was Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki, which released in 2023. Hirani is currently working on a streaming show which stars Vikrant Massey. The director is yet to announce his next film.
SCREEN, India’s first and oldest film newspaper, started in 1951. The publication is now being relaunched for the digital audience.
