Rajat Bedi, who gained renewed recognition after Aryan Khan’s debut show The Ba**ds of Bollywood, recently spoke about feeling disappointed after being left out of the promotions for Hrithik Roshan-starrer and Rakesh Roshan directorial Koi Mil Gaya in 2003. The actor also blasted Mukesh Khanna for misquoting him in his podcast that might have created problems between him and the Roshan family.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, he said, “Koi Mil Gaya upset me a lot. I loved working with Rakesh ji. He’s one of the best technicians I have worked with but I was disappointed when I was not part of the promotions of the film.”

Rajat admitted that he didn’t speak to Rakesh Roshan about the film’s promotions beforehand. “Rakesh ji is such a big filmmaker that you don’t even talk commercial when you meet them and they ask you ‘What are you going to charge?’ You tell them ‘Rakesh ji how can I even talk about it? You pay me whatever you feel.’ You just feel that you will be sincere with the work and this film will lift you up. But it is okay, that was his call. However, after that whatever films I was doing I was not happy with them so I decided to leave for Canada.”

Rajat, who appeared on veteran actor Mukesh Khanna’s podcast a while ago, blasted him for misquoting him and using his statement for YouTube views, hinting that the incident caused some friction between him and the Roshan family. He said, “Whatever Mukesh ji did was wrong. He called me for an interview. In that interview, I did tell him that when I was not invited for the publicity of the film and circumstances happened. I felt left out and work was not right, so I left for Canada. But he blew that up and he made a thing that I had to leave the industry because of Rakesh Roshan. This is wrong. It is very wrong to do that just to get hits. In fact, a week prior to that interview, I was with Rakesh Ji in his office.” He added, “It has caused a little…I feel it is wrong and I also publicly apologised.”

In his chat with Mukesh Khanna, Rajat had said, “There couldn’t be a bigger hit than Koi Mil Gaya but I didn’t gain anything from it. I had lots to do in that film but my track with Preity Zinta was chopped off. My biggest disappointment was, when Koi Mil Gaya released, I was completely left out of the promotions so I was very disappointed. Because you have certain expectations as an actor, and you feel bad.”

Rajat also revealed that he landed the negative role in Koi Mil Gaya because of his basketball skills, as the character required proficiency in the sport. “I told Rakesh ji don’t even worry about it and he was convinced,” he recalled.

He further shared how Hrithik Roshan prepared for his role, saying, “Hrithik could not talk to anyone. He was so involved in his character… And prior to the shoot for 30 days he checked himself into a hotel and he would talk like his character, in the baby voice. So, actually worked on himself for 30 days to get into that character.”
