Raj Babbar opens up about son Prateik Babbar’s difficult times: ‘He had troubled everyone, he was also troubled’
Prateik Babbar has spoken about battling substance abuse in the past and how he overcame his addictions.

Veteran actor Raj Babbar is proud of his actor-son Prateik Babbar for getting his life back on track after facing a few setbacks. Raj recently opened up about the time when Prateik was in a dark place which made things difficult for him, and his loved ones.
In an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Raj while talking about his family, said, “Prateik is there (film industry) and he is doing everything. He is very sincerely working. Beech mein ek waqt aaya tha jab usne sabko pareshan kiya tha aur khud bhi pareshan raha tha lekin ab usne apne aap ko iss tarah se mold kiya hai. God is very kind. (There was a time in between when he troubled everyone and was troubled himself but now he has molded himself. He is doing good work, he is getting good offers).”
In the past, Prateik has spoken about fighting substance abuse. In an earlier interview with Times of India, he spoke about quitting alcohol and drugs and said that it was around this time that he started missing working in the movies.
Prateik later said that it was his desire to do justice to himself and the legacy of his mother, that he decided to give up drugs and alcohol. In an earlier interview with Siddharth Kannan, he said, “Iss duniya ko maine bohot miss kiya, I missed the industry and acting. I felt I was letting down people who love me. My naani (maternal grandmother) died at the time and I was left alone, so I needed something to latch on to. At that time itself, I decided I want to get back to it (acting),” he shared.
He further added, “I wanted to do justice to my mother, her line of work and the person she was. That is my purpose, to do justice to her legacy and the artist she was.”
Prateik’s mother, legendary actor Smita Patil passed away soon after giving birth to him. He grew up at his maternal grandparents’ house.
