While Priyanka Chopra has been busy serving looks at Bulgari’s 140th anniversary celebration, a video of British TV host Andi Peters mispronouncing the actor’s name has gone viral on social media. Though it’s understandable to mispronounce names, Priyanka’s fans have accused Andi of intentionally mocking her.
In March, Andi visited Madame Tussauds in London for Good Morning Britain to discuss the celebrities immortalised in wax there. During the show, Andi struggled with Priyanka’s name, calling her ‘Chianca Chop Free’. TV hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins, who were in the studio, corrected him and gently reprimanded him, saying, “Honestly, Andi. If you’re going to stand next to somebody, at least work out what their name is. That’s Priyanka Chopra, the Indian Bollywood actress who is now a massive star in America.”
Priyanka Chopra’s fans were outraged by Andi’s lack of preparation and accused him of deliberate disrespect. One fan wrote, “It’s a huge disrespect, not just a mispronunciation, because anyone can make a mistake, but this was intentional.” Another fan commented, “Someone needs to tell Andi Peters that Priyanka Chopra has earned her place in Madame Tussauds, unlike him.” Another simply wrote, “Disrespectful.” One disappointed fan said, “I used to like Andi – not anymore! That was really rude, and it’s not that hard to say her name at all!”
On the professional front, Priyanka will next star in Head of State. Directed by Ilya Naishuller, the film also features Idris Elba, Jack Quaid, and John Cena in leading roles.
