The Russian Federation has announced scholarships for Indian students for the academic year 2026-27, opening doors to higher education opportunities across the country. The programme covers almost all universities in the country — from Moscow and St Petersburg to Krasnodar, Kaliningrad and Vladivostok — except for Lomonosov Moscow State University and MGIMO. Indian students can apply for a wide range of courses at every level, including bachelor’s, specialist’s, master’s and MPhil programmes, as well as advanced training courses.

Fields of study span medicine, pharmacy, engineering, architecture, agriculture, management, economics, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, space, aviation, sports, and the arts, offering diverse academic pathways.

Applicants who do not speak Russian can opt for an additional preparatory year to study the language before commencing their chosen course.

The selection process does not involve entrance tests or examinations; instead, candidates are assessed based on two criteria: their average scores from previous education and a portfolio that may include scientific publications, recommendation letters from university authorities, and certificates from national or international competitions and Olympiads.

Applicants may list up to six universities in order of preference, but final enrollment will depend on the institution’s selection. The process is conducted in two stages: the first stage, which concludes on January 15, involves document verification and shortlisting.
The second stage, overseen by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in coordination with Russian universities, includes the allocation of students to institutions and the issuance of visas.
