Rani Mukerji, Kajol mourn the demise of filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar: ‘It is really sad and shocking’

Pradeep debuted in the Hindi film industry with the screen adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Parineeta. Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan, and Sanjay Dutt played pivotal characters in the film. His last directorial on the big screen was Helicopter Eela starring Kajol and Riddhi Sen in the lead roles.

Ajay Devgn also paid tribute to the late filmmaker on Twitter, “The news of Pradeep Sarkar’s demise, ‘Dada’ to some of us is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences. My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP Dada.”

Lyricist Swanand Kirkire wrote on Twitter, “Filmmaker and dearest friend Pradeep Sarkar the mad man left us this morning. Rest in peace Dada your passion for the art of cinema will stay in your works! Duniya bhar ki mitti ikatthi karte the ab jannat ki mitti dibiya mein bharna. Thank you for loving me and my words.”

Director Kunal Kohli tweeted, “Shocked & Sad to hear about Dada Pradeep Sarkar. Really sweet man. Had lovely conversations about the cinema with him. RIP Dada. Here’s a song from your film to celebrate you & your cinema…”

Kajol, who worked with Sarkar in Helicopter Eela, wrote, “Dada, your sense of humour, humility, and dedication towards your films will be dearly missed. Rest in peace.”

Actor Divyanka Tripathi expressed her emotions about the unexpected loss of the director, who directed her in the web series Coldd Lassi Aur Chicken Masala. She shared, “This is unacceptable! You are gone too soon dada. All memories of you are rushing in. Your beaming smile, positivity, and extreme dedication towards your craft. You have been my valued friend, mentor, and well-wisher. If you are hearing my prayers, you will be remembered forever.”

Rani Mukerji, who worked with Pradeep Sarkar in Mardaani, also expressed her shock on his demise. In a statement, she said, “I’m very shocked by the news of Dada’s passing away. We were planning to meet this week when I got back, but it is just so unexpected. His wife (Panchali boudi) called me at 4 am when this happened. It is really sad and shocking that Dada has passed away like this.”

Pradeep directed Laga Chunari Mein Daag starring Rani Mukherjee, Konkona Sen Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor, Lafangey Parindey featuring Deepika Padukone and Neil Nitin Mukesh. He has directed web series like Coldd Lassi Aur Chicken Masala, Forbidden Love, and Arranged Marriage.

The mortal remains of the director will be cremated at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium around 4 PM on Friday.
