Actor Pankaj Tripathi, known for playing several memorable characters on screen, has carved a unique niche for himself in the film industry. Having started out playing supporting roles, he has now become what one distributor described to him as a ‘saleable face’, with numerous franchise hits under his belt. In a recent interview, Pankaj opened up about his journey in acting, his consecutive hit films, and recalled being axed from Hrithik Roshan’s Lakshya.
Revealing what a big industry figure recently said to him, Pankaj told The Lallantop, “I have been a part two back-to-back hit films, OMG 2 and Fukrey 3. People talk a lot about box office collection. If we look at it from that perspective, though I only believe in good and bad films, both films have been successful. A very big distributor recently told me, ‘You’re now a saleable face’. I told him, I don’t know about that, I just try to deliver good performances.”
He also mentioned a past incident when he was announced as being a part of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Lakshya, and his scene ended up being deleted from the film. He said, “The news that I am in Lakshya was printed in the newspaper, and I felt bad, because people who will read the paper and then wouldn’t see me in the film, they will think I am lying. Cinema is a lie, we make up a story and show it on screen. But I refrain from lying in real life. Akhbar mein aagaya Bihar ka laal dikhega, par Bihar ka laal toh picture mein he nahi hai (It was printed in the newspaper that the son of Bihar will be seen in the film but he didn’t appear in it).”
Pankaj Tripathi’s journey in the film industry serves as an inspirational story. During the interview, he embraced his success and mentioned, “At this time, I am part of six franchises: Metro 2, Stree 3, Mirzapur 3, Criminal Justice 4, OMG 2, and Fukrey 3.” Reacting to being labeled as the ‘franchise king’, Pankaj said, “I don’t even know when I became a part of these projects.”
