As the Hindi film industry sees a decline in romantic films, fans often turn to old films to relive the magic of the genre. Many also express a desire to see sequels of beloved romantic films. One such film that continues to receive love is Imran Khan’s Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. In a recent interaction on the YouTube channel Aamir Khan Talkies, Imran and the film’s director Abbas Tyrewala sat down for a conversation and discussed the possibility of a sequel to Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.

Talking about the same, Imran said, “When I am walking, people come and grab me by the shirt and ask, ‘Are you guys going to make Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’s sequel?” Abbas chimed in, “That’s my Instagram DM every day.”

Abbas Tyrewala revealed that he had once pitched the idea of a sequel to Imran Khan’s uncle and the film’s producer, Aamir Khan. He said, “Very shortly after the film’s release, I went to Aamir with an idea of the sequel — at some point Jai and Aditi (Imran and Genelia D’Souza’s characters in the film) would fight. I told him, ‘Let’s start the sequel at the point when Jai and Aditi are on the trial of their separation. Jai will bump into Meghna (Jai’s former love interest in the film) at a party and he is drunk.'”

Aamir, however, wasn’t pleased with the idea. Recalling his reaction, Abbas said, “Aamir told me, ‘Never refer to this movie again. I don’t want to hear anything about the sequel if that’s the way you are going with it.'” Abbas himself admitted to lacking the willingness to make a sequel to the beloved film. “I don’t know how to reboot fairytales. I haven’t seen them working well,” he said. The actor-filmmaker, however, did express interest in a reunion of the film’s cast.

Released in 2008, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na marked Imran Khan’s debut in films. The movie was a massive hit at the box office and also received critical acclaim.
