Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui,  who is promoting his upcoming film Haddi, backed by Anurag Kashyap, has admitted that he’s going to be “choosing scripts” wisely as lately some of his “experiments” have not panned out as he planned.

The actor, who plays a transgender in Haddi, said that he plans to try and only “do good films now”. He told news agency IANS, “I really don’t know what will happen in 2024. But yes, I will be very careful when choosing my scripts. I will choose the scripts wisely now, as some experiments did not go as planned for me. I will try to do only good films now.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was last seen in Prime Video’s romantic comedy Tiku Weds Sheru, backed by actor turned filmmaker Kangana Ranaut. The actor who rose to fame for his performance in films like Kahaani (2011), the 2012 Gangs of Wasseypur duology, and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016), has recently been a part of films such as Heropanti 2 (2023) and Jogira Sara Ra Ra (2023) that did not performed well at the box office. However, his performance in Afwaah (2023) received critical acclaim.

In an earlier interview with indianexpress.com Nawazuddin Siddiqui had talked about his desire to try different genres and lead romantic comedies. He had said, “After having done some very intense characters like Raman Raghav, Manto or Ganesh Gaitonde (in Sacred Games), I felt the need to do a few light films. Bits of those roles have stayed with me, taken a toll on me, they don’t leave your system. These characters have taken away a lot from me.”

Nawazuddin had also commented on his recent films not doing well commercially. “It is an interesting struggle. I always wanted to try new things, different things, and that’s exactly what I am doing. I never wanted to be stuck to one kind of role or films. Today I am doing comedies, as well as films that go to film festivals, as well as commercial films. My struggle enriches me, it adds to my craft,” he had said.
