Buses crossing 200 charging cycles will undergo full maintenance checks, and manufacturers whose buses reported fires will face a complete safety audit.
In light of recent fire incidents involving one CNG and two electric DTC buses, a review meeting was held on Monday where Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh directed officials to immediately strengthen safety and maintenance protocols.
The minister instructed DTC as well as the Transport Department to carry out deeper technical audits of CNG and electric buses, improve low-voltage wiring systems, enhance real-time monitoring of battery health and inverter temperature.
Further, he directed that the fleet of manufacturers whose buses were involved in fire incidents be subjected to a safety protocol audit. He also directed the incorporation of IIT Delhi’s recommendations into a comprehensive action plan.
In addition, buses found with battery heating concerns must adopt reduced-voltage charging to minimise risk and extend battery health, the minister said.
