Actor Naseeruddin Shah recently discussed his complex relationship with his late father, Aley Mohammed, revealing that he was unable to ever bridge the gap that existed between them. The actor shared his regret of not being by his father’s side during his last moments, and revealed how he tried to communicate with him after his passing.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Naseeruddin said, “I never understood my father, and nor did he ever understand me. He used to believe in age-old traditions like, ‘father is the head of the family and whatever he says will happen.’ I tried not to do the same with my kids. But there was always a gap between us, which was never filled, and I regret that a lot.”

The veteran actor continued, “I was not there during his funeral, but I went to his grave and spoke my heart out. I told him everything that I wanted to say. I felt like he was listening.”

Naseeruddin said that he feels guilty about running away from his house in his youth without informing anybody. Talking about his first marriage, the actor said, “When I got married, he (his father) was very shocked. But when I had a daughter, he went to meet his granddaughter and he was very happy. To some extent, my daughter’s birth helped patch things up between us. But it did not last long.”

However, the actor also recalled how his father gave him Rs 600 without asking him any questions. He said, “I thought of joining the Film Institute and he said I can’t support you for another two years. But I got selected, and my brothers helped me a lot for two years. When I got admitted into the institute, I needed Rs 600 as admission fees. I wrote to my father saying I need Rs 600 urgently, and I thought he would refuse. But the very next day he transferred Rs 600 through TMO and he did not ask a question.”

On the work front, Naseeruddin was recently seen in the second season of Taj: Divided by Blood.
