Mahesh Bhatt reveals Akshay Kumar risked his life for a ‘daring’ stunt during Angaaray shoot, recalls ‘shutting eyes’ as actor jumped from a building
In the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt opened up about shooting a 'daring' stunt with actor Akshay Kumar in Angaaray.

Actor Akshay Kumar, who is known for performing jaw-dropping stunts in films, graced the finale episode of Kapil Sharma’s The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3. During the episode, a video message from filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt was played for Akshay. In it, Bhatt revealed that the actor once risked his life performing a daring stunt while shooting their 1998 action thriller Angaaray.
In the video, Mahesh Bhatt said, “If Hollywood has Tom Cruise, who does his own deadly stunts, we have Akshay Kumar. I have seen him perform a daring stunt with my own eyes. A mere mention of the stunt will scare you. However, I actually didn’t watch it because I closed my eyes and ran towards the corner.”
“It was a strange stunt. The fight master came to me and said that if the hero jumps from this building to the next one, then it will make the scene more strong and alive. I said that it would bring the scene to life, but there’s also a risk and fear of losing a life. But Akshay said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll do it.’ I told him, ‘Look, Akshay, you are my responsibility. What if something goes wrong?’ He assured me that nothing will go wrong,” the filmmaker added.
Mahesh Bhatt admitted he had closed his eyes during the stunt and only opened them once it was over. “So, I shut my eyes, turned and moved to the back. Then, after that deafening silence, something electrifying happened and people started clapping. When I heard the applause, then I took a sigh of relief and turned to see that he had landed safely. His expression was as if nothing happened. I think that was the foundation on the basis of which he has come this far.”
When asked whether he feels concerned for the filmmakers who have signed him for upcoming projects, Akshay Kumar replied, “I consider myself a stuntman first and then an actor. I would like to give credit to all the fight masters, who look after their actors and stuntmen. To answer your question, it’s a feeling, a high, it feels amazing, the desire to give it a shot.”
A trained martial artist, Akshay has performed numerous high-risk stunts throughout his career. In the Season 3 finale of The Great Indian Kapil Show, he also paid tribute to the stuntmen who have played a vital role in his journey.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar’s film Jolly LLB 3 is currently playing in theatres. It also stars Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla.
