Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit Nene has found herself embroiled in controversy after many attendees of her ongoing USA-Canada tour launched an online attack against her for arriving three hours late to the event in Toronto. Dubbing the show as “poorly organised,” one person even went so far as to say that the advertisement for the programme was misleading, as it didn’t explicitly mention that it would predominantly be a chat show, with performances few and far between.

Taking to Instagram to share a video of Madhuri dancing to her iconic track “Mera Piya Ghar Aaya” from Yaraana (1995) during the Toronto leg of her ongoing “The Golden Diva of Bollywood” tour, one netizen wrote, “If I could give you one piece of advice, it’s not to attend the Madhuri Dixit tour… Save your money.” He added, “What an absolute shit show of a night… and they get PAID for that?”

While many who assembled in the comment section echoed these sentiments, some expressed support for her. Critiquing the event, one Instagrammer wrote, “This was the worst show ever. So unorganised. The advertisement didn’t say she was just going to chat and dance for 2 seconds of each song. Very very poorly organised by the promoters. So many people walked out. People were yelling for a refund and (that the show’s) boring. Doesn’t matter that she is a beautiful actress and person, everyone who went to the show has to agree it was poorly organised.”

While one person wondered, “How long will she dance on the same old songs. She does it on her weekly dance shows already. What was the tour even for?” another netizen lamented, “I am glad I saw her, but left at 11:05 pm as I had work the next day. I honestly don’t know if it was the organisers or her who decided for her to come at 10 pm. On my ticket, it said the start time was 7.30 pm. It did not state any pre-shows. I expected it to be a chat, with some singing and dancing. It just started way too late and disrespected the audience’s time.”

A third user commented, “Worst show one can ever go to. Least worried about the audience’s time. 3 hours late and then full of lame talks.” Meanwhile, another Instagrammer simply noted, “Horrible, horrible show… Avoid it!!!!”

However, not all reactions were negative, although even the positive ones did not address the delay in the show’s commencement. Calling her a legendary artiste, one fan observed that people buy tickets simply to see her. Another netizen wrote, “Madhuri Dixit is amazing, whoever got to attend was very lucky. Real fans would appreciate any glimpse of her. It’s obvious who the real die-hard fans are and who are not. She has a beautiful voice and no one can match her dance steps. It’s not her fault if it was not organised correctly, she can only do so much. To be in her presence is something else. She looked so beautiful.”

Since Madhuri Dixit is scheduled to visit New Jersey, Boston, Chicago, Houston, and New York as part of the tour in the coming days, it remains to be seen if the organisers will change the format of the event in any manner. The actor and her team have yet to respond to the delay in the Toronto show.
