Madhoo, who is still remembered for her work in 1992’s Roja, recently opened up about her broken bond with filmmaker Mani Ratnam after the success of the film. The actor said that because of her ‘attitude’, she failed to create certain bonds in the industry and explained why, in those initial days, she did not give nay credit to Mani Ratnam. Madhoo said that she has now realised why Mani Ratnam deserves all the credit and regrets not applauding him back then.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, the actor was asked about not starring in Mani Ratnam films after Roja and Iruvar. Madhoo said, “Mani sir might have felt a bond with different artists and I tried to reach out many times. I sent messages. I am very fond of him. At that time, I never considered anyone to be my godfather. I didn’t feel Mani sir did me a favour. ‘Mani sir wanted to Roja, he found his Roja in me. What’s so special about that?’ This was my attitude.”

When asked if she had become arrogant after the film, she said, “It came from a place of pain.” Madhoo said that nobody supported her in her career. She claimed that everything, from her makeup to costumes, was done by her. “There was an element of ‘I’. I did it all.’ I refused to give credit to anybody.”

The actor said that this attitude might have annoyed people. “Mani sir deserves the credit. I should have told him at that time. Now I give him all the credit. He gave me an identity. I didn’t make many good bonds, that’s why I was not repeated in films.”

On the work front, Madhoo recently played the role of Menaka in Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Shaakuntalam. She was also seen on the Tamil web show Sweet Kaaram Coffee.
