Anubhav Sinha, who has delivered critically acclaimed films like Article 15 and Mulk, recently reflected on his earlier career setbacks and how the failure of some of his high-profile films took a toll on him personally and professionally. He opened up about the box-office debacle of Ajay Devgn’s Cash and Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One, admitting that while the former strained his relationship with Ajay, the latter broke him emotionally. Speaking on YouTube channel Ulta Chasma UC, Anubhav said, “I meet a lot of people who now tell me they like Ra.One, but at that time, the film was declared a flop. There was a lot of pain after it flopped. I made a film with Shah Rukh Khan and it was a flop and people didn’t like it at that time. That film broke me emotionally. It took time for me to recover from that.” Praising Shah Rukh Khan, Anubhav added, “I was very fortunate that I was able to meet Shah Rukh Khan. I value him more than a star and an actor. Even if I don’t work with him ever, but I know him as a person and that is enough for me, you learn a lot from him. He is a very passionate, compassionate person. Despite all the stardom, he has a middle-class mind. You can learn all of these things from him. Of course, I would love to work with him, but I don’t have a story for him now and he also will not have time for me now.” Speaking about how Cash’s failure impacted his professional equation with Ajay Devgn, the filmmaker said, “Ajay Devgan is a wonderful person, but sometimes when a film doesn't work, then a team gets separated. I have made my career’s worst film with him – Cash. It is really a bad film and a team member has a full right to be upset about it. It was a careless film. After the film, me and Ajay got separated, and we never got a chance to meet again. There is no big story there.” Cash starred Suniel Shetty, Esha Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Zayed Khan, Shamita Shetty, and Dia Mirza in the lead roles. In an old interaction with Lallantop, Anubhav shared that Ajay hasn't spoken to him for 18 years. "We have never fought. He just doesn’t speak to me and I have no idea why. Since the making of Cash, we haven’t even met for me to tell you he ignored me or something. So, maybe, it's just me overthinking. However, I did text him a couple of times, and never received a response, so I told myself that maybe it slipped his mind or he must have missed my message. But, it's been about 18 years since we have spoken,” he said.
