‘Kareena Kapoor’s K3G character Pooh left a major imprint on me’: Ananya Panday

At the trailer launch of Call Me Bae, Ananya Panday reveals how she had Kareena Kapoor's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham character Pooh's dialogues stuck on her room's mirror.

Ananya Panday is gearing up to step into the web series space with Karan Johar-backed show Call Me Bae. The series revolves around the riches-to-rags concept, where a girl from an affluent family has to lead a middle-class life. While Ananya plays a high society girl on the show, Karan feels her character Bae has a strong resembleance to Kareena Kapoor’s character Pooh from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

At the trailer launch of Call Me Bae, Karan Johar said, “It’s been 23 years to K3G, but if Pooja (Pooh) and Rohan Raichand had a daughter, she would be like Bae. Ananya’s character in this show is a 2.0 derivative of Pooh.”

Ananya Panday also spoke about her character’s resemblance to Kareena Kapoor’s character from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and said how she has been a fan of the character. “Pooh is iconic. I dress up like her even now at 23. I have all her quotes on my mirror. She has left an imprint on me.”

When asked about her character being tagged as a ‘bimbet’, Ananya said the best way to understand Bae is by not judging her. She said, “As a character, I never made fun of Bae even though she said some really silly things. It’s very important not to judge her as a character, even though people in the show do judge her. She is a very positive girl. But her best quality is she doesn’t judge people back.”

Call Me Bae streams on Amazon Prime Video from September 6.
