Kareena Kapoor Khan was our guest at Express Adda on Monday. Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan on Monday graced Express Adda, where she talked about her career, children Taimur and Jeh, husband Saif Ali Khan, and also about the Hindi film industry. During the event, she also took part in a rapid-fire round by The Indian Express’ Executive Director, Anant Goenka. Anant asked Kareena a range of questions including her experience of working in Bollywood, the paparazzi culture, raising two sons and alternate casting of one of her most successful films, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
Here are highlights from Kareena Kapoor Khan’s rapid-fire round:
Being accessible is hurting stardom or is it making it bigger and better?
Kareena: It’s like a double-edged sword. Earlier, it was just about performances. Now, because of the whole social media outburst, people are dissecting, everybody’s a critic, everybody’s writing. If people write something, I think it is affecting the stars somehow. It is because I’m assuming the younger generation is very into social media, into Instagram, doing things, and wanting to be seen. I don’t know. I guess it’s all about that. You somehow need to find that balance.
Paparazzi, yay or nay?
Kareena: In today’s time, it’s difficult to run away from it. So please accept it. I have accepted it. So even if I’m like in my dirty jeans and T-shirt and a swollen face, please click me. It’s fine. But I’m also going to give you pictures where I am looking glamorous. It has become like that and I’m like, maybe it’s helping because people are getting to see maybe a more real side to me also.
One thing that’s changed in the Kapoor family over the past 23 years.
Kareena: The actors have also become better. Ranbir Kapoor.
If you were making your debut today, what would you do differently than you would have done 23 years ago?
Kareena: I’m really proud of my debut. It was really different. It wasn’t like a typical commercial song and dance potboiler. I wouldn’t want to change that at all. Let’s keep that for posterity.

One thing that’s remained the same in Bollywood for the last 23 years.
Kareena: Competition.
The one thing that should have changed in Bollywood but hasn’t in the last 23 years.
Kareena: Maybe better working conditions, more organised timings. I worked with the British crew recently, and they were really stringent. More unity towards our working hours, and working conditions, we need to all be more unified in that way and get some sort of law and order there.
The one thing in Bollywood you think shouldn’t have changed but has changed.
Kareena: Privacy of the actors.
One word that comes to mind when you hear the word paparazzi?
Kareena: Stress. because they’re like all over me. I wake up in the morning. I’m like, ‘Are they in my bedroom?’
One woman in whose biopic you would like to play the lead role in?
Kareena: I have been offered a lot of biopics. But portraying someone else’s life or playing somebody who’s alive, I’m not 100 per cent convinced. I find it a bit weird.

Any Raj Kapoor film that you would have liked to act in?
Kareena: Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
One Karisma Kapoor movie you’d like to be remade with you in it.
Kareena: Zubeidaa
The designer you would pick for Taimur’s wedding?
Kareena: I think longevity-wise, definitely Manish (Malhotra) because he has a huge fan following. And as you talk about star power, somehow I think he’s a darling of the masses and that matters.
One Hollywood actor you have learned from, inspired by or admire?
Kareena: Meryl Streep and also Kate Winslet
One Hollywood male star you’d like to be cast opposite as a love interest.
Kareena: Leonardo DiCaprio.
If you were the casting director for K3G today. Who would you cast for each role?
Kareena: No one. No one can do Poo better. So me again. Do we really have to recast this iconic movie? I don’t think anyone can match up to those characters.
Which film of yours would you make Taimur and Jeh watch first?
Kareena: It could be any of the comedy, usual fun ones, like Golmaal or something like that. Let them start slow.
Which film of yours would you never want your kids to see?
Kareena: They also have to know sometimes how bad I am. They have to know, it can range from bad to like super good.
Saif is closest to which of his onscreen characters?
Kareena: Definitely not Omkara, please. Saif is like really chilled and fun. I would say Salaam Namaste.
Of all of Saif’s ensemble cast, who do you think he shares the screen best with? Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn or John Abraham?
Kareena: I would say Akshay Kumar. I like watching them together.
The one female lead actor aside from you, who you think Saif makes a good pair with on-screen?
Kareena: Deepika Padukone.
The one trick in making your child get along with his newborn sibling.
Kareena: With what I’ve learned with like two boys, just buy two of everything. There’s no other way to keep the peace.
