Karan Singh Grover says daughter Devi was left with a scar running from chest to stomach after open heart surgery: ‘What I and Bipasha went though…’
Karan Singh Grover spoke about his daughter Devi's harrowing open heart surgery, and said that she has been left with a large scar on her body. He also recalled the harrowing time he and wife Bipasha Basu faced together.

Actor Karan Singh Grover opened up about his daughter’s heart surgery, and said that it was among the most difficult experiences of his life. Karan is married to actor Bipasha Basu, who gave birth to their daughter, Devi, in 2022. In a new interview, Karan spoke about the open heart surgery that Devi underwent at just three months old, after it was discovered that she had two holes in her heart.
Asked about the difficulties that he has experienced in his life, Karan told Dainik Bhaskar, “Something or the other keeps happening. I am very lucky that nothing very bad happened in my life. But there was a time when we faced a very big problem with our daughter. That time was very difficult for us. My daughter had a serious health problem, and what she suffered during that time is hard to describe in words.”

He continued, “My daughter is a true fighter. She has a long scar on her chest that goes till her stomach. Whatever we think and achieve in our lives is nothing compared to her. Whatever she and her mother (Bipasha Basu) have gone through, it cannot be compared. Nothing like this has happened in my life, I am very lucky. My daughter has proved that she is a true fighter.”
Bipasha had spoken about Devi’s diagnosis in a chat with fellow actor Neha Dhupia in 2023. “Karan was a mess, and I had to even throw him out of the ICU sometimes. When I saw her in the ICU first time with all the monitors and a dressing bandage in the middle of her chest, she was lying there as a hero. Devi is our brave heart and very powerful,” she said through tears.
She said that doctors informed them about Devi’s condition on the third day of her birth, and said that there was a chance that the holes close over time. But they also advised Bipasha and Karan to get regular scans done to chart the progress, if any. When none was observed, it was decided that Devi would have to undergo surgery. “Devi had a very successful operation, and I never had a doubt about it. But the six hours that she was in the OT, my life felt like it stopped,” she had said.
