Actors Kamal Haasan and Prabhas unveiled the first glimpse of their upcoming film Kalki 2898AD, which was earlier known by its working title Project K at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) in the US. During a panel discussion, Kamal shared why he chose to do a negative role in the Nag Ashwin directorial. Kamal was not seen in the first glimpse of the film.

Kamal said, “The reason I accepted to do this film (is because) I come from the analogous cinema, Without the negative there’s no positive, so a negative role is an important role in a film.”

“What is so great is the energy that our audience brings to our cinema. We make the movies, they make the stars,” Kamal added. About working with Bachchan in the movie, the Vikram actor said, “We are honoured to live with his eternity,” to which Sr Bachchan added, “Stop being so modest Kamal. You are much greater than all of us.”

While Kamal Haasan and Prabhas attended the San Diego Comic-Con in person, Amitabh Bachchan, who also plays a pivotal role in the film, attended the event via a video call. Later, the superstar took to his personal blog and shared that he was unaware of what comic-con is all about and his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, explained how the event is a big deal and was excited for it.

Bachchan, in his blog, wrote, “The first look of Project K has just been released at this huge Film event in SanDiego called COMICON .. I must admit unabashedly that I had no idea what Comicon meant or was until I told Abhishek, or rather asked him what this is all about and he said .. with a shocked look on his face, ‘Dad .. Comicon ? this is a huge deal … and today as I partake in a Zoom call at the release I cannot but be in bewildered admiration for Nag Ashwin and his team for putting together an astonishing film ..Abhishek’s reaction said it all ..’WHOA !!! .. THIS IS HUGE ..’.”

Along with Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan, the film also stars Deepika Padukone. However, she gave the San Diego Comic-Con a miss as she is part of the The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), which is on a strike at present that doesn’t allow actors to provide promotional or publicity services. That extends to appearances at conventions, such as the San Diego Comic Con.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres around the world in January next year.
