Kajol says K3G and DDLJ spoilt Karwa Chauth for women: ‘Now they have to wear good clothes’

Kajol feels Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G) turned the simple festival of Karwa Chauth into a big event.

Kajol has featured in Hindi cinema’s two biggest hits, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G), both of which celebrate Indian culture. But the actor feels both the films have spoilt the festival of Karwa Chauth for both men and women.

In DDLJ, Kajol’s character Simran keeps a fast for Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj before marriage. To celebrate the festival, all the women get together at her house and perform the rituals together while being decked up in their traditional outfits and jewellery. In Karan Johar’s K3G, the festival is celebrated in an even grander ceremony in London.

Speaking to Humans of Cinema, Kajol said, “Karwa Chauth in K3G and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has spoilt Karwa Chauth for all men and women. Now they have to wear good clothes. Earlier, it was just a simple ceremony. Suddenly Karwa Chauth became this big function, a fashion deal where everyone has to get dressed. Women have to wear jewellery, poori dukaan ban kar baith jaao bas. Bhookh bhi chalegi as long as you are looking good while you are starving.”

Kajol also revealed that a lot of women walk up to her and tell her, “Tum logon ne humare liye Karwa Chauth kharab kar diya (You guys have spoilt Karwa Chauth for us)” The actor added that people now also want to know how celebrities are celebrating Karwa Chauth.

“It has become an event. Now even paparazzi come outside our house to see ki chaand ko dekha ya nahi iss saal. (Whether they are observing the festival this year or not),” Kajol shared.

Last seen in Netflix’s Lust Stories 2, Kajol is all set to make her web series debut with The Trial. It will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar from July 14.
