John Abraham talks about working with Shah Rukh Khan. (IMDb)On-screen, actor John Abraham and Shah Rukh Khan were at loggerheads in Pathaan, but off screen, the former would call the superstar to get details on how the film was shaping up as only he had access to the development. John said it is a rule that producer Aditya Chopra, who backed Pathaan, shows his films to no one but Shah Rukh, hence he relied on the superstar to relay the information to him.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, Pathaan had emerged as the biggest hit of all time in 2023 when the film hit the big screens. In the movie, John played the antagonist while SRK was an Indian soldier. During an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, John was asked about the historic success of Pathaan, which marked the thumping comeback of Shah Rukh Khan at the box office.
“We were together when we realised the film is going to be a hit and looked at each other and said, ‘Damn good, man!'” John said recalling the first day of Pathaan, which had set the box office on fire.
John Abraham and Shah Rukh Khan at Pathaan success meet.
“Aditya Chopra is very strict. He doesn’t show his films to anyone, except Shah Rukh Khan! So whatever information I would get, it would come to me from Shah Rukh! Before the film, I would call him and ask him, ‘How is it?’ and he would tell me. He is very sweet. Our energies were fantastic.
“When my career started, Shah Rukh was my judge and now during Pathaan, I was working with him. So, there was respect and love. He is an extremely smart, intelligent man but is also very caring and cute. We really got along,” he added.
Also starring Deepika Padukone, Pathaan became the first Bollywood film to cross the Rs 500 crore benchmark at the Indian box office. Its record was then broken by Shah Rukh’s Jawan, which still remains as the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time at Rs 640 crore all-India nett.
On the work front, John Abraham is currently awaiting the release of his next Vedaa. The Nikkhil Advani directorial also stars Sharvari and is set to hit the screens on August 15, clashing with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein.
