Jim Sarbh recalls being made to travel by train while ‘main actor’ got special treatment, shares advice to younger actors: ‘Lie, lie a lot’
Jim Sarbh shared his advice for younger actors, and said that they should control their temper and 'lie' when they need to.

Actor Jim Sarbh looked back on the mistakes that he made early in his career, and advised younger actors to ‘not get angry’ even if people ‘treat you like s**t’. Best known for his roles in the films Neerja and Padmaavat, and in the streaming shows Made in Heaven and Rocket Boys, Jim said that he was extremely affected by the bad behaviour of certain people when he first started out in the industry, and wouldn’t hide his true feelings. But over the years, he has realised that ‘lying’ is often the best way to navigate these scenarios.
Appearing on the Streaming Show, the actor was asked what piece of advice he’d give to his younger self, and to younger actors, and he said, “Don’t get angry. I was young, I was pretty hot-headed. I got angry. I couldn’t understand how people could be like this. I just couldn’t understand it. I came from some amount of working in the States, and then from a we’re-all-equal theatre space… I just couldn’t… I just could not believe it. It made me very angry. Angry and upset and hurt and disappointed.”
He continued, “Luckily, I have a good equilibrium. But I would definitely lie more, I guess. In a nice way. I’d just lie more, and not say what I actually felt. I felt that there was some kind of honour in telling the truth, even if that truth looked angry. And no one gives a s**t. No one cares about your truth. They just don’t want to be talked to in a certain way.”
Jim said that he is now progressing to a point where he can still be honest, but in a kinder way. “But if I had to go back, I’d say, ‘Listen, you weren’t able to say what you wanted to say in a kinder way, just lie. Lie. Forget it. Go into a room, scream into a pillow…” Affecting a mock positive attitude, Jim revealed what he would’ve said to a hypothetical film producer: “I love that you somehow can’t afford a car to take us back home even though you’re paying us nothing at all, and the main actor drove up like this… I love that! I’m going to take the train.'”
Jim said that no one besides close friends actually cares about one’s pain. “Lie! Lie a lot,” he said, adding that his mother gave him this advice. Jim will soon be seen in his first Telugu film, starring Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna.
