Last year, Ananya Panday embarked on a new chapter of her life by purchasing her first-ever apartment in Mumbai. Interestingly, the apartment is in the same building where she grew up with her parents, actor Chunky Panday and Bhavana Panday. During a recent interview, the Panday family gave a sneak peek into their luxurious, spacious homes, which feature large open windows and a warm, inviting ambiance.
In a conversation on Asian Paints’ YouTube channel, Ananya revealed a sentimental connection to the building, noting that her father, Chunky Panday, also spent his childhood there. “My dad grew up in this building as well. This is the first house that I lived in. We lived in a joint family on the first floor, and we had three different apartments. We always had an open-door family policy because my grandmother didn’t like closing doors. I had a fulfilling childhood,” she said.
Chunky Panday elaborated on the family’s history in the building, saying, “We have been in this building since 1971. It started with one terrace flat, and then I bought a three-bedroom flat in the 90s. We’ve been lucky with our two girls; they have loved this house and contributed a lot to it.”
The video showcases Chunky Panday’s elegant home, with its most striking feature being the expansive glass windows surrounded by lush greenery. The space is modern and open, with walls adorned with family photographs and memorabilia. Rooms lead to a large balcony decorated with plants and a small garden.
Chunky humorously mentioned how their home often gets messy after parties, recalling, “The house gets completely destroyed after parties.” Bhavana added, “I remember one party where there was cake on my couches and their faces. Ananya has destroyed my house a couple of times.” Chunky then joked about how Ananya expects them to be “very particular” about her apartment whenever they visit. Bhavana added, “She tells us to leave our shoes outside and even how to hold a mug.” Reflecting on their home, he said, “Over the years, the energy of this house has been so happy. There is some kind of divine intervention here.”
Ananya also gave a tour of her apartment, showcasing her personal style. She explained that she wanted her home to feel warm and welcoming, which is why all the sitting areas are furnished with soft, cozy fabrics. She highlighted her dog’s “messy corner,” where she spends most of her time, and shared a glimpse of her walk-in closet, which is designed as an open space so she can see all her clothes at once. However, she refrained from showing her bedroom.
Ananya’s apartment was designed by Gauri Khan, wife of Shah Rukh Khan. In an earlier interview with Architectural Digest India, Ananya spoke about working with Gauri on her space. She said, “Having Gauri Khan do my house was very, very, very special to me because she is like family to me. I have grown up around her and she just got it. I could not have asked for anything better honestly.”
