Sharmin Segal has faced criticism for her performance in Heeramandi since the show’s release on Netflix. In a recent interaction, actor Indresh Malik, who played Ustaadji in the web series, addressed the trolling Sharmin has received. He defended her, emphasising that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Indresh said, “I had a blast working with her and she’s a wonderful soul. In between shots, we used to joke and, mark my words, she’ll go places. There have been masterpieces in history that the masses have rejected. After 10-15 years, people realise it’s a masterpiece. But when it was made and released, people rejected it outright there and then. So everybody has the right to criticise. You cannot stop anybody from commenting or criticising. So it’s all about your state of mind.”

Previously, actor Jason Shah also commented on Sharmin Segal’s performance in Heeramandi. Jason mentioned that he wasn’t present during the briefings between her and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, so he doesn’t know what exactly happened.

“I think it shows that you can have the greatest director there… But, I wasn’t there so I don’t know what was spoken. As a director to actor, maybe that was what they were going for. I am not sure. I have heard a lot about this, honestly, I feel a bit sorry for her. In certain scenes, to me it felt like something needs to happen, but it is a different kind of role… To be honest, to keep that one tone, whether it is me smacking her on the table or Tajdar dying, maybe that’s what they were going for,” he told Zoom.

Created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Heeramandi also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha and Sanjeeda Sheikh in the lead role roles.
