I Want to Talk box office collection Day 3: Abhishek Bachchan’s rough run continues amidst positive reviews; film finally crosses Rs 1 cr mark

I Want to Talk box office collection Day 3: Abhishek Bachchan's latest critically acclaimed film is making no dents at the box-office and might end up as one of the worst performing films of the actor, and the filmmaker Shoojit Sircar

I Want to Talk box office collectionAbhishek Bachchan's I Want to Talk is facing rough weather at the box office.

I Want to Talk box office collection Day 3: In the era of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ it is imperative that a film comes with an impressive promotional strategy to ensure people come to the theatres. Even if the film’s scale doesn’t allow you to go on a multi-city tour for promotion, there is a need to create a buzz, especially outside the circles of social media. Unfortunately, Shoojit Sircar’s latest, I Want To Talk, has suffered from a lack of promotions, a packed release schedule, and few other reasons best known to the makers. Despite receiving positive reviews for its content and performance of Abhishek Bachchan, I Want to Talk has just managed to earn Rs 0.5 crore on Sunday taking its overall tally to Rs 1.25 crore.

With the film being released only in select screens already, the occupancy of the film on a Sunday was at an abysmal 14.55 %. Even the limited release with just about 130-odd screens in Mumbai, and 200-odd screens in NCR didn’t work in favour of the film because both these areas only had 16.75% and 9.75% occupancy. Most of the other primary areas in the country had just a handful of screens allocated to the maiden collaboration of Shoojit and Abhishek.

Backed by Kino Works and Rising Sun Films, I Want to Talk, which also stars Ahilya Bamroo, will go down as the lowest performing films of both Abhishek and Shoojit. Of course, there is a case to be made that box-office numbers aren’t the only yardstick for a film’s merit, and it is expected that I want To Talk will receive a much more favourable audience during its streaming run.

However, the theatre-going Hindi audience seem to prefer watching the Diwali releases and The Sabarmati Report instead of giving patronage to films like I want to Talk. For instance, on day 24 of its release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa earned Rs 3.4 crore, and Singham Again made Rs 1.9 crore at the domestic box office. The Sabarmati Report is growing from strength to strength as it amassed Rs 3.10 crore on Sunday, making Day 10 its best-performing day since the release.

With the Pushpa 2: The Rule onslaught coming up on December 5, it is expected that I Want to Talk will not have any last-minute resurgence happening to its box-office prospects. If things don’t look up on Monday, and the days to follow, I Want To Talk, which was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, will definitely end up as one of the biggest upsets of 2024.
