‘Hrithik Roshan broke his back during Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai climax, had to go to rehab,’ says Ameesha Patel

Ameesha Patel claimed that Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai had to be delayed for six months because Hrithik Roshan 'broke his back' during the shoot.

Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel-starrer Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai recently re-released in theatres on the film’s 25th anniversary. The film was an instant hit and Hrithik and Ameesha became overnight sensations. Hrithik’s dance moves and his action scenes in the movie got a lot of appreciation and Ameesha recently revealed that Hrithik actually suffered a massive back injury while shooting the climax of the film.

In a chat with Zoom, Ameesha recalled that the movie was made in two years and shared that while doing one of the action moves required for the film’s climax, Hrithik “broke his back.” “When we were shooting the climax, when it was intense action, Hrithik had to take a jump and when he jumped, our hearts were in our mouths because Hrithik broke his back, I actually heard it. He fell and his back was gone. We rushed him to the hospital at three in the morning,” she recalled.

Ameesha Patel claimed that Hrithik Roshan’s injury delayed the film by six months as the actor had to go to rehab so his back could be fixed. “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai got delayed by six months because Hrithik needed bed rest, go into rehab. We came back, Rakesh uncle put on the same set. It, of course, cost a lot of money and there was also financial losses,” she said.

Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was directed by Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan. Ameesha was cast in the film at the last moment as Kareena Kapoor was set to debut in the movie with Hrithik. She walked out of the film after shooting for a couple of days and later made her debut with JP Dutta’s Refugee, also starring Abhishek Bachchan.

Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel later worked together in the 2002 film Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, directed by Vikram Bhatt. The movie failed miserably at the box office.
