Gadar 2 box office collection day 41: Jawan to overtake Sunny Deol-starrer as it enters third week

Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 released in theatres over a month ago, and after becoming one of the most successful films of the year, the Anil Sharma film’s box office collections saw a significant dip after the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan. Gadar 2 started its box office journey with Rs 40.1 crore on the opening day and made Rs 55.4 crore on Independence Day and now, on its 41st day in the theatres, the film earned Rs 35 lakh, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

This takes the film’s domestic nett collection to Rs 521.15 crore, which makes it the second highest grosser of the year, followed by Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan. Shah Rukh Khan’s film made Rs 543.05 crore during its run when it released in January. Gadar 2 was on its way to breaking Pathaan’s record, but then it was hit by the onslaught of Jawan which slowed down its collections. The Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel film still needs to make over Rs 21 crore to get to the top spot which seems rather difficult at this point as Jawan has completely overtaken the box office. Jawan’s current domestic nett collection stands at Rs 468 crore (Hindi) and Rs 518.28 crore (all languages). The film is now entering its third week at the box office. Jawan is only Rs 2.87 crore behind Gadar 2.

Gadar 2 hit the screens during the extended Independence Day weekend, and released alongside Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2. OMG 2’s box office collections came as a surprise and the film managed to make Rs 149.67 crore during its lifetime run. Despite the film’s good collections, Gadar 2 ruled the box office for almost a month.

Gadar 2 is the sequel of the 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel film takes forward the story of Tara Singh, Sakeena and their son, played by Utkarsh Sharma, and is set in the 1970s. The makers have indicated that they will be making a third part of the franchise but they are yet to make an official announcement about the same.

The box office collections of the Hindi film industry have been in freefall since the pandemic but 2023 has proved to be a gamechanger. With many big hits this year, it now seems like the audience has embraced the community viewing experience again and are ready to step out to enjoy movies in the theatres.
