Former RAW chief dismisses Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Salman’s Tiger as ‘waste of time’: ‘They are not accurate depictions’
"You have this story of the ISI girl and a RAW man living happily ever after… take a break yaar," former RAW head Vikram Sood said referring to Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan.

Vikram Sood, the former head of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) which is India’s foreign intelligence agency, recently stated that Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan is “not an accurate depiction” and he doesn’t plan on wasting time watching the film. The fourth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe, the film tells the story of Pathaan (SRK), an exiled RAW agent, who works with ISI agent Rubina Mohsin (Deepika Padukone) to take down Jim (John Abraham), a former RAW agent and traitor, who plans to attack India. The first Hindi film to gross ₹1,000 crore worldwide without a China release, Pathaan received much appreciation for its action sequences.
Siddharth Anand-directed film released six months ago but Bollywood is yet to produce another movie capable of surpassing the records set by the Shah Rukh-Deepika starrer.
During a chat with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Sood was questioned by the interviewer about his thoughts on movies such as Pathaan and the Tiger series. In response, the former RAW head said: “I think we haven’t got the art to do this. They could do better. They can be realistic, these are not realistic.”
Expanding on his viewpoint, Sood said: “Firstly, you are trying to make a James Bond movie which is also not realistic. Then you have this story of the ISI girl and a RAW man living happily ever after… take a break yaar. I haven’t seen Pathaan and I won’t see it because I don’t think it is… it’s not an accurate depiction. Why waste my time!”
Admitting that he had indeed watched Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Sood said: “I laughed watching the film and enjoyed it because it was so quaint.” He also took a swipe at Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, noting that it too falls into the category of exaggerated films.
Recommending Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies (2015) to the viewers, Sood said: “That is a real movie. That is how real spy movies are made. It means dealing with actual facts, no blown around, no nothing around, living a lonely life, living all by yourself.”
As per reports, Shah Rukh Khan will make a special appearance in Maneesh Sharma’s upcoming film Tiger 3, reprising his character Pathaan, signifying the progression of the Spy Universe.
