Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat box office collection day 2: Harshvardhan Rane-starrer performs better than Dharma’s Dhadak 2, earns Rs 16.5 crore
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat box office collection day 2: Milap Zaveri's romantic film is holding its ground against Thamma, and is tracking better than how Harshvardhan Rane's rom-com Sanam Teri Kasam did upon its re-release earlier this year.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat box office collection day 2: Milap Zaveri’s romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, released without much promotions and it has clearly surprised everyone with its box office performance. Having released on the occasion of Diwali, the film has emerged as the dark horse after the other Diwali release, Ayushmann Khurrana’s horror comedy Thamma, underperformed as per trade expectations.
On Wednesday, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat earned Rs 7.5 crore, registering a slight dip from its opening day collection of Rs 9 crore on Tuesday, its opening day. After two days, the film’s total domestic box office collection stands at Rs 16.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This is noteworthy as Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’s has only 2,400 shows, as opposed to Thamma, which has over 5,700 shows across India. During its first two days, Thamma has earned around Rs 42 crore.
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat releases at a time when intense romantic dramas have been the flavour of the season. It started with Mohit Suri’s blockbuster Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which garnered Rs 329.2 crore during its six-week run at the domestic box office. But since Saiyaara was backed by YRF and had more shows than Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, it would be unwise to compare their box office numbers in the first couple of days.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has earned significantly higher than another recent romantic drama — Shazia Iqbal’s Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. That film, despite being backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and getting rave reviews, managed to earn only Rs 7.2 crore in the first two days, which is even less than the Day 2 earnings of Rane and Bajwa’s film.
Dhadak 2 went on to earn only Rs 22.45 crore at the domestic box office across its two-week run, having been impacted by the juggernaut success of Ashwin Kumar’s animated mythological drama Mahavatar Narsimha, which became the highest grossing animated film in the history of Indian cinema. However, unlike Dhadak 2, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has held its ground against a much bigger threat in Thamma.
Rane is also riding on the delayed success of his breakthrough film, Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao’s romantic comedy Sanam Teri Kasam. It originally released in 2016 but managed to earn only Rs 9 crore back then. However, it emerged as a hit upon its re-release earlier this year, running for three more weeks and bringing up its total domestic box office run to Rs 42.28 crore.
Co-written by Zaveri and Mushtaq Sheikh (who co-wrote the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om with director Farah Khan), Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat also stars Sharad Kelkar and Ananth Narayan Mahadevan. Despite getting mostly negative reviews, its box office suggests the film has struck a chord, like the 2018 Zaveri directorial Satyamev Jayate.
