Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2 has all the 90s comedy tropes that would have once worked for Govinda. Watch trailer
Ayushmann Khurrana cross dresses in his upcoming film Dream Girl 2. The film also stars Vijay Raaz, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor and Ananya Panday.

The trailer for Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Ananya Panday and Annu Kapoor in the lead roles, dropped on Tuesday and upon watching the three-minute trailer, it takes you a minute to realise that this is a 2023 film. The sequel to the 2019 movie where Ayushmann’s character had the schtick of talking on the phone in a woman’s voice and making money out of it, this one takes that schtick a notch higher.
Here, Ayushmann’s character dresses up as a woman and performs as a dancer. The performance isn’t limited to the stage because he pretends to be a woman when meeting potential employers as well. The trailer gives out almost the entire plot of the film where his character has to get married to a man after he is promised some money. The movie appears to be the kind that would have been made by David Dhawan if we were still living in the 1990s when cross dressing was one of the most popular tropes in comedy films. The movie also stars Asrani, Paresh Rawal, Abhishek Bannerjee, Manjot Singh and Vijay Raaz.

Ayushmann Khurrana was on a golden streak before the pandemic but he is yet to deliver a hit since then. His last film, An Action Hero, did not work at the box office. The movie had him playing a Bollywood hero who is on the run after he kills someone. The film found some takers after it released online. Before that, his movies Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek and Doctor G also performed badly at the box office. His last theatrical hit was the 2019 film Bala.
Dream Girl 2 sees Ayushmann reprising the role that gave him his biggest hit at the box office. The Raaj Shaandilyaa film made Rs 142.26 crore back in 2019. Bollywood is still going through a tough time at the box office as there haven’t been many hits this year apart from Pathaan, The Kerala Story, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.
Dream Girl 2 releases on August 25.
