Dream Girl 2 box office collection Day 11: Ayushmann Khurrana-Ananya Panday film earns Rs 116 crore worldwide

According to the film’s production house, the movie has collected Rs 116 crore worldwide gross. The official Instagram account announced, “This is nothing but Dream Girl ke 116,00,00,000 aashiqon ka pyaar!”

In Dream Girl 2, Ayushmann plays Karam, a young man from Mathura whose financial circumstances force him to pose as a woman, Pooja. Ayushmann’s drag avatar in Dream Girl 2 has been a hit amongst cinegoers as the film has turned out to be one of the most successful ventures of the actor. In fact, it also marked the biggest opening of his career as it made Rs 10.15 crores on August 25.

Dream Girl (2019) was the first film in the franchise, and the biggest hit of Ayushmann’s career. According to Bollywood Hungama, its lifetime gross earnings were Rs 169.36 crores in India and Rs 200.8 crores at the worldwide box office. Prior to the success of Dream Girl 2, Ayushmann had experienced a string of flops with films like An Action Hero, Doctor G, Anek, and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui.

Talking about the possibility of Dream Girl 3, Ayushmann Khurrana in a recent interview with Pinkvilla said, “I don’t know, you will have to ask Raaj Shaandilyaa (director of Dream Girl and Dream Girl 2). If he comes up with an equally outrageous idea like Dream Girl and Dream Girl 2, we should definitely go for it. And if it has crazy laugh out moments and great gags, then why not? It is a front bencher massy film and once in a while you will see me in that avatar along with my core genre.”

Discussing the challenges of creating a sequel, the actor emphasised the need to meet the benchmark set by the first film. When asked what is the toughest thing about making a sequel, he said, “To reach the benchmark of the first film. There is an expectation and you have to reach 70 per cent of that and that’s enough. But you have to be 70 per cent at least, so of course the expectation will be there and of course that expectation will usher you to a decent opening. I think the love for sequels in always there. It was there pre-pandemic and right now it is coming back to back with Gadar 2, OMG 2, Dream Girl 2, but it won’t work if the film is not good. It has to be the content.”

Dream Girl 2 features an ensemble cast including Paresh Rawal, Manjot Singh, Seema Pahwa, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Asrani, Vijay Raaz, and Manoj Joshi in pivotal roles.
