Dream Girl 2 box office collection day 1: Ayushmann Khurrana delivers career-best opening, film debuts with Rs 10.69 crore

Dream Girl 2 doesn’t have tough competition right now because movies such as Gadar 2, Jailer, and OMG 2 have already been running in theatres for two weeks. The film is a sequel to Dream Girl, which was released in the year 2019. Dream Girl also had a similar opening and had minted Rs 10.50 crores on its first day, but emerged as the biggest hit of Ayushmann’s career, with Rs 142 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.

The Indian box office has experienced a positive trend in the past few months, showing signs of revival after the pandemic-induced slowdown. Dream Girl 2’s opening day collection is similar to other recent releases like OMG 2 (Rs 10.26 crore), Satyaprem Ki Katha (Rs 9.25 crore), and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11 crore).

In an interview with Indian Express, Ayushmann had called the film ‘massy’. He said, “This  (Dream Girl 2) has a wider palette and is more massy. Other than that all my films have always been middle-of-the-road cinema, this is front-bencher massy.”

Dream Girl 2 is helmed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the banner Balaji Motion Pictures. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Manjot Singh, Seema Pahwa, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Asrani, Vijay Raaz, and Manoj Joshi, among others.

Indian Express critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film 2.5 stars. A part of the review read, “Dream Girl 2, touted as the ‘spiritual successor’ of the 2019 film of the same name, repeats most of the original cast in its clearly-stated intention of pushing gender boundaries a couple of notches higher. Which is a good thing, and gives this 2023 outing its edge.”
