The aftermath of the divorce between cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma is turning increasingly ugly. Both of them have taken indirect digs at each other, with Yuzvendra being spotted wearing a T-shirt that read “Be your own sugar daddy” amid their separation. The gesture triggered massive trolling for Dhanashree, with many calling her a “gold digger.” The dancer and choreographer has now appeared on the Ashneer Grover-hosted reality show Rise and Fall, where she opened up about how she has chosen to remain silent about their separation.

Speaking on the show about the attention their divorce received in the media and how it snowballed into a huge topic, Dhanashree said, “I didn’t want to touch up on a few things at all. There are two people, and if some fight happens between us, one person is saying that let’s end this, that happened, okay? Then stay on the same lane, why do you need to create something… everyone has to maintain self-respect, and when you are in a marriage, you need to keep the respect of the other person also intact. I could have also disrespected him. You don’t think I have things to say as a woman? But he was my husband, I respected him even when I was married, and I have to respect the fact that I was married to him. If you want to show yourself as a good person, then show it through your work, why put somebody else down to clean your own image.”

When asked if she has turned cynical about love after the divorce, she replied, “I’m not cynical, that’s a harsh word, but I’m not interested.”

Earlier, on the same show, Dhanashree had also addressed the “gold digger” tag she has often been labeled with. During a fun conversation, when Arjun Bijlani told her, “Dekho, mujhe diamond, silver thoda suit nahi karta. Mujhe gold suit karta hai,” Dhanashree seized the opportunity to reflect on the trolling she has been subjected to over the past few months. She responded, “Yeh line toh main bol nahi sakti. Agar maine yeh line bol di toh jo mujhe pyaar milne wala hoga who bhi nahi milega,” she said with a laugh.

Earlier, Yuzvendra Chahal spoke about wearing the T-shirt in a podcast with Raj Shamani, and said, “I just felt like I wanted to give one message and I did that. Because something had happened from the other end… I didn’t want to do it earlier but then something happened and I decided, now everyone can go to hell, I will do what I want.”

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma tied the knot in 2020. They filed for divorce in February 2024, with the separation being finalized earlier this year.
