Actor Suhani Bhatnagar, who played the role of young Babita Phogat in 2016 film Dangal passed away on Friday in Delhi. Officials at AIIMS in Delhi informed indianexpress.com that the 19-year-old was admitted in ICU and passed away on February 16.
Her Dangal co-star Aamir Khan‘s production house extended condolences to Suhani’s family on social media. “We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji, and the entire family 🙏🏽 Such a talented young girl, such a team player, Dangal would have been incomplete without Suhani. Suhani, you will always remain a star in our hearts ❤️ May you rest in peace 🙏🏽,” they shared. Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari said in a statement, “Suhani’s passing away is absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. She was such a happy soul, so full of life. My deepest condolences to her family.”
Speaking to Bombay Times, Suhani’s co-star, the former actor Zaira Wasim, said that she cannot comprehend the loss. Zaira said that after hearing the news, she immediately had flashbacks of the time she spent with Suhani when they were working on Dangal, and of all the memories they made together. “I cannot imagine what her parents must be going through. I pray they find the strength,” she said. Suhani played young Babita Phogat in Dangal. Sanya Malhotra played her grown-up version in the film. Suhani also acted in a bunch of advertisements.
Reportedly, Suhani had met with an accident last year and was in the hospital receiving treatment. She was also quite active on social media and had enthusiastically shared pictures from the time she promoted Dangal with her cast mates Aamir Khan, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, Fatima Sana Sheikh and director Nitesh Tiwari.
