After Jahnvi Kapoor’s Wimbledon visit, Boney Kapoor says actors just go there for photos: ‘They don’t know about tennis’
Producer Boney Kapoor talks about the marketing tactics he used for films like Mr India, and slams the current lot of actors for going to events like Wimbledon to get clicked by the media.

It would seem that producer Boney Kapoor doesn’t exactly see eye to eye with his daughter Janhvi Kapoor in terms of putting yourself out there at major events to promote yourself and your projects. During a recent interview, Boney listed out the several ingenious plans he put in place for promoting his films in the past, and he also talked about his disdain for actors who go to events like Wimbledon just for photo ops and promotions.
While appearing on the Game Changers’ YouTube channel, Boney shared how he was responsible for a lot of firsts in the world of film promotions and said, “Mr. India was probably the first time that an actor, in this case Anil Kapoor, went down to do the toss at the Sharjah cricket stadium dressed up like his character. He even sat at the commentator box doing commentary with Sunil Gavaskar. That toss was still a few months before the film’s release. Just before it came out, the West Indies were coming to India for a series. I got a helicopter and had Anil land in the middle of the ground to do the toss as Mr India. We even had merchandise, such as Mr India erasers and pencils.”
He added, “Now actors will go and sit at Wimbledon just for photo ops. 90 percent of those people don’t know what tennis is all about, but because their picture is being clicked at such a prestigious event, they go. We were cricket buffs; that’s why we went to those places and did promotions.” The interesting thing about this piece of critique is that Janhvi attended the last Wimbledon, which was held in July, with her boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya. In 2024, Janhvi also attended cricket matches while she was in the midst of promoting her film Mr and Mrs Mahi, where she played an aspiring cricketer.

Even though the father and daughter seem to have very different views on the matter, Boney still wants to work with Janhvi and talked about how he already has a project in the pipeline with both his daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor.
When asked about whether he had an edge over other producers because he had actors in the family, he said, “See, the first thing is that I don’t think that I have an edge over any other producers, because the actors in my home only want to do films that appeal to them. There are several such films which are very close to my heart, out of the present lot of the 6 films I have: 2 in Tamil and 4 in Hindi. I am making one film with Janhvi and the other with Khushi.” He has previously announced that his film No Entry 2 will star son Arjun Kapoor
One of Janhvi’s films, Param Sundari, recently released, while she waits for the release of her next project, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Khushi, on the other hand, was last seen in Nadaaniyan and Loveyapa, and both films failed to make a mark with the audience and the critics.
