Bobby Deol reveals dad Dharmendra is currently living with first wife Prakash Kaur; second wife Hema Malini lives in her own bungalow

Bobby Deol revealed that his parents, Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur, are currently living together. A few years ago, Hema Malini said that she lives separately from Dharmendra.

The legendary actor Dharmendra’s personal life has been just as dramatic as his career. He came to Mumbai from Punjab, already a married man. When he became a superstar, the fortunes of his family changed. His wife, Prakash Kaur, had to adapt to an entirely different kind of life. Years later, she also had to deal with her husband falling in love with another woman, Hema Malini. Dharmendra’s second marriage caused a rift in the family, with Hema Malini continuing to live separately in her own bungalow while Dharmendra lived in his house with his first wife and four children. His daughter with Hema, Esha Deol, said that she didn’t meet Prakash Kaur until she was 30 years old. In a new interview, Dharmendra’s youngest son, Bobby Deol, revealed that his parents are living together at Dharmendra’s Khandala farmhouse.

In an interview with ABP Live, he was asked about his father posting notes on social media that made it seem like he is very lonely. Bobby said, “My mum is also there. They’re both at the farm in Khandala right now. Papa and Mummy are together; he just gets a little dramatic. They love being at the farmhouse. They’re also old now, and being at the farmhouse is relaxing for them. The weather is nice, the food is nice. Papa has made a paradise out there.”

He continued, “Papa is very emotional. He’s very expressive. He shares what he’s feeling with everyone… Sometimes he goes overboard, and then I ask him why he wrote what he wrote or said what he said, and he tells me that he was just following his heart. Yes, of course we meet him, but we’re busy sometimes and he gets emotional. He doesn’t have any idea how many people could read his posts.”

Opening up more about his mother, he said, “You don’t hear about my mother much because people don’t usually ask us about her. And because my brother and father are actors, I end up talking more about them. My mother is a housewife, and I am her favourite. We speak every day. In fact, she called me twice just today. She’s the strongest woman I’ve ever met in my life. She’s had a very tough journey. She came from a small village, and the way of living was very simple. And then, to adjust to city life as the wife of a superstar… It wasn’t easy. I am what I am because of my wife, and it is the same with my father. It is because of my mother’s support that my father became a big star.”

On his parents’ 71st wedding anniversary earlier this year, Bobby had shared a picture of the two of them on social media. Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur got married in 1954, when the actor was just 19. The couple has four children, sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and daughters Ajeeta and Vijeta. Years later, in 1970, Dharmendra met Hema Malini on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawaan. Their on-screen chemistry quickly translated into a real-life romance, though their union faced significant resistance from Hema’s family. Despite the challenges, the couple eventually married in 1980 and went on to have two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol.

A couple of years ago, in an interview with Lehren Retro, Hema spoke about her ‘unusual’ arrangement with Dharmendra, where she lives separately in her own house. She said, “Nobody wants to be like that; it happens. Automatically, what happens, you have to accept. Otherwise nobody will feel like they want to live their life like this. Every woman wants to have a husband, children, like a normal family. But somewhere, it went out of the way… I am not feeling bad about it, or sulking about it. I am happy with myself. I have my two children, and I have brought them up very well.”

A year after his marriage to Hema, Prakash Kaur defended Dharmendra in an interview with Stardust. She said, “Why only my husband? Any man would have preferred Hema over me.” She further questioned, “How dare anyone call my husband a womaniser when half the industry is doing the same thing?” Prakash, in the same interview, claimed, “All heroes are having affairs and getting married a second time. He may not be the best husband, though he is very good to me, but he is certainly the best father. His children love him a lot. He never neglects them.”
