‘I was beaten by Farah Khan a lot’: Shah Rukh Khan’s line producer on Main Hoon Na credits her for helping him ‘develop thick skin’

Farah Khan was a taskmaster, according to Vishal Punjabi, who worked as a line producer on the film Main Hoon Na. Vishal is now best known as The Wedding Filmer.

Vishal Punjabi, aka The Wedding Filmer, worked for a decade at Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment before starting his own wedding videography business. During this time, he also worked as a line producer on the SRK-starrer Main Hoon Na, which marked the directorial debut of Farah Khan. In an interview, Vishal looked back on his experiences with Shah Rukh at Red Chillies, and spoke highly of Farah, whom he described as a ‘riot’. Appearing on Adhunika Singh’s YouTube channel, Vishal expressed gratitude to Farah for trusting him with her vision, but also noted what a tough taskmaster she was, and said that he was ‘beaten by her a lot’.

Farah was originally a choreographer before she made her debut as a filmmaker with Main Hoon Na. Asked about his time working with her, Vishal said, “It’s amazing to see Farah now, because all these years, she hasn’t changed. She’s only become younger, cooler, funnier, sexier. I’ve always loved her. I’ve always had a special place for her in my heart. She made me develop the thickest possible skin you can have at a shoot. She’s a lot of fun to shoot for; she’s a bag full of brilliant ideas. I’m surprised she’s not doing so much more work. But I’ve always loved her.”

He continued, “I’ve been beaten by her a lot. But I’ve also learned so much from her. I didn’t know anything about filmmaking when I met her. But she believed in me, she liked me, she thought there was something in me that nobody else saw, and she gave me a break. She held my hand and taught me how to do a shot breakdown. I did the best I could to make sure that her film was made the best to her vision. To be a part of her team at such a young age, and to be given so many responsibilities just shows the kind of person she is. She didn’t have to do all of that for me; she had access to the best crews in the world.”

Farah hasn’t made a feature film since Happy New Year, which was released over a decade ago. She is, however, a fixture on reality TV, and of late, has developed quite the following on YouTube, where she posts lifestyle vlogs. Farah’s channel has over 2.2 million subscribers, and has made her cook Dilip into a household name.
