Bad Newz box office collection day 5: Vicky Kaushal-Triptii Dimri film sees minor jump after Monday fall, headed towards Rs 42 cr week-one finish

Bad Newz box office collection day 5: After a Monday fall of nearly 70 percent, Karan Johar-backed Bad Newz stabalised itself on Tuesday where the collections saw a minor jump. The comedy drama, headlined by Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Amy Virk, netted Rs 3.65 cr, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The Tuesday collections were nearly Rs 15 lakhs more than Monday.

The five-day total of Bad Newz stands at Rs 36.85 cr and the film is now likely to trend at similar levels the next two days, to close its week one around Rs 42 cr. Bad Newz primarily being multiplex centered film will have its showcasing hit this weekend when the big Hollywood release Deadpool and Wolverine releases, but will still be in a safer position as the other Hindi release, Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira is a washout and Kalki 28989 AD is in its last leg at the box office.

Bad Newz was not only the highest opener of Vicky Kaushal, but it is also already set to nett the biggest week-one of his career since Uri– The Surgical Strike in 2019. Vicky’s last release, Sam Bahadur, had minted Rs 36.75 cr (in a clash with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal) while his Zara Hatke Zara Bachke had closed its week one at Rs 37.75 cr. The first week collections of Uri–The Surgical Strike were Rs 70 cr.

The Anand Tiwari directorial is likely to benefit from the lack of any Hindi film releases this week, as the makers had also rolled out a BOGO (Buy one get one free) offer on the film on Monday. The next competition it will face at the box office will be on August 2, when two new Hindi films will hit the big screen– Janhvi Kapoor starrer Ulajh and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, headlined by Ajay Devgn and Tabu.
